Though it’s now been six years since one of the deadliest hurricanes we’ve ever seen hit New Orleans, the relief efforts are still ongoing. Toyota has been a strong influence over the years and in June it was announced they would be doing even more! They will now help more by donating their Toyota Production System expertise to help schools, hospitals and other community organizations improve their operations, extend their reach and increase their impact. The results of their work was recently released and your friends at the local Staten Island new Toyota dealership are excited to share this news with you!

When Toyota announced they would be sharing their Toyota Production System expertise, it was also revealed that it would be with the St. Bernard Project. This is one of the major housing recovery organizations in New Orleans and Toyota was proud to team with them! The results of the project have now been announced and they are very promising!

In just under three months, the St. Bernard Project has realized significant improvements through their use of the techniques which were established on Toyota’s assembly lines. Some of the results can be seen below:

Where the project once needed 12 – 18 weeks to rebuild a house, they were able to finish two test houses in just six weeks! That’s an improvement of more than 50%!

In addition to quicker build times, the time needed for re-work (or work not done right the first time) is down more than 50%! This goes a long way and helps them to reduce waste, increase efficiency and lower costs.

These are very significant improvements that everyone should be proud of!

Jamie Bonini, who is the general manager of the Toyota Production System Support Center (TSSC), had this to say about the news:

“At Toyota, we judge our success not just on the cars we make, but also on the positive impact we are able to have in local communities nationwide. … With so many nonprofits being asked to do more with less, the need to operate with greater efficiency has become even more important. While there is still much more to accomplish in our joint work with SBP, we are pleased that the techniques of the Toyota Production System are beginning to show early results.”

Here at Hudson Toyota, we are incredibly proud of the efforts our company has made and even more proud of all the work being done in New Orleans. To learn more about Toyota’s contributions, stop in and see us. While you’re here, check out our selection of new and used vehicles! For a used or 2012 Toyota, NJ drivers can count on us! We hope you’ll stop in soon!

There’s been a great amount of buzz about the all-new Toyota Prius plug-in vehicle. Recently, everyone got a better look at just what the new PHV will look like and your favorite Staten Island new Toyota dealer is here with the details for you!

The Toyota Prius PHV is the car with no compromises. It will differ from the regular Prius on a few key points:

The plug-in model will be capable of running up to 15 miles as a purely electric car, after which the Hybrid Synergy Drive takes over. This makes it the best of both worlds – superior fuel economy AND added EV capability!

In EV Mode, Toyota’s estimates it delivers the equivalent of 89 miles per gallon. In hybrid mode, it still delivers an incredible 49 mpg average!

Recharge time at 115V takes just 3 hours, less than that with the new Leviton Level II charger that will be available for a starting price of $999 installed.

The PHV’s smaller 4.4 lithium battery pack qualifies for the minimum federal taxcredit of $2,500

A group of lucky individuals in California were invited to be the first to see and experience the first production version of the plug-in hybrid.

Check out this video of the unveiling by Division Group vice president and general manager Bob Carter:

Here at Hudson Toyota, we couldn’t be more excited for the Prius PHV! WE know it will made a great addition to what we already have here at your favorite Toyota dealers. NY drivers looking for a great deal on a high quality vehicle can always count on us! Whether you’re shopping for a car, truck, or SUV, this is the place for you. Here’s a taste of what we have in stock:

Among the diverse line-up available here at Hudson Toyota is the Toyota Camry. 2012 is proving to be an especially exciting year for the Camry, and this time-tested sedan is now looking better than ever! Your friends here at Hudson Toyota are here today with all of the details!

POWER

There are two engine options for the 2012 Camry:

Generating the 178 horsepower, the 2012 Toyota Camry’s entry-level 2.5-liter 4-cylinder powerplant supports dual variable valve timing and gasoline direct injection. This engine helps the Camry to earn 28 miles per gallon in average fuel economy

The performance-oriented 2012 Toyota Camry sedan continues to be the 268 horsepower, 3.5 liter V-6 engine. With this engine, drivers can earn 25 miles per gallon

Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

LOOKS

For 2012, dimensions are unchanged but a new exterior appearance is designed to give the impression of a lower stance. The front-end styling is modified on the new sedan giving a slightly more rigid, sportier look, a look we think you’ll like!

FEATURES

One of the most exciting features on the 2012 Toyota Camry is the Entune multimedia technology. Entune gives users the choice of infotainment options including music service Pandora, as well as safety features such as a back-up camera. The 2012 Camry also features sound dampening to provide better sound shielding against vibration and road noise.

HYBRID

For 2012, drivers can also choose the Toyota Camry Hybrid. The hybrid shares the revised exterior and interior look, with subtle distinctions including badging are used to distinguish the gasoline/electric powertrain model. For this year, the new Toyota Camry Hybrid is a much smarter system. For short distances under 1.6 miles, a new EV Drive mode that allows travel at under 25 miles per hour on electric power only. The 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid fuel economy extends to 41 miles per gallon thanks to better aerodynamics, lighter components and a better Toyota Hybrid Synergy Drive. Overall, a great option!

To learn more about the 2012 Camry, or to find out how you can get a 2012 Camry lease, stop in and talk to us at Hudson Toyota! Our friendly sales staff can’t wait to meet you and help you find your next car!

Here at Toyota, we are very excited about the ever-expanding plethora of new technologies that we are able to offer our customers. One of these technologies has to do with alternative means of powering our vehicles and it comes in the form on an all-electric vehicle – otherwise known at the EV. Toyota Motor Sales of U.S.A. recently made a significant announcement regarding the all-electric technology when they said that Leviton was selected as an approved Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) provider for Toyota customers and dealers!

Here’s an official statement from a Toyota official:

“Leviton provides electric vehicle charging products and a high level of customer service that will benefit both Toyota customers and dealers when the Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicles and next generation RAV4 EV come to market in 2012.”

-Rick LoFaso, TMS corporate manager, marketing for passenger cars.

What exactly will Levitron’s contributions include?

Leviton’s support includes program management of a certified installation team and an extensive customer service center. Leviton offers a variety of electrical vehicle supply equipment products for commercial and residential use that will offer Toyota dealers and customers an assortment of charging solutions to fit their needs.

More on Toyota EVs

In 2012, Toyota Motor Company will bring two all-electric vehicles to the US: the RAV4 EV and the Scion iQ EV. This makes us the only manufacturer with two models in the US!

Check out this video of the RAV4 EV’s debut:

Toyota also will bring to market in 2012 the Prius Plug-in Hybrid vehicle, which combines an extended all-electric range for shorter commutes with a conventional hybrid synergy drive for longer trips.

In addition to selling new vehicles like the above-mentioned all-electric models, everyone here at Hudson Toyota is also proud of the fact that we are a leading Newark used Toyota dealer. To hear more about our selection of used models, stop in and see us at Hudson Toyota! Our friendly sales team can’t wait to see you in the store!

Thanks to vehicles like the Toyota Prius, Toyota has always been well ahead of the competition when it comes to fuel efficient vehicles. Soon more auto manufacturers will have to follow suit as new government regulations were recently put into effect. Toyota has joined other automakers around the world to endorse these changes and your favorite used Toyota dealer is here with the details.

The Obama Administration’s New Fuel Economy Standards will raise fuel economy standards to 54.5 mpg by 2025 while reducing greenhouse gas emissions to 163 grams per mile. Here’s a look at what else the administration has to say about the standards.

In the year 2025:

The fleet-wide average will be 54.5 miles per gallon

Consumers will have saved $1.7 trillion at the pump over the life of the program

A family that purchases a new vehicle in 2025 will save $8,200 in fuel costs when compared to a similar vehicle in 2010

Over the life of the program, the standards will:

Save 12 billion barrels of oil

Eliminate 6 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide pollution

Here’s what President and COO of Toyota Motor Sales, USA Jim Lentz has to say:

“I am pleased to be in Washington today to demonstrate Toyota’s unyielding commitment to this important process. The long-term objectives of this program are very ambitious, and we intend to meet the challenge.”

He went on to say:

“We share the Administration’s goal of achieving major advances in clean, fuel efficient vehicles. Obviously, there is still a great deal of uncertainty as to how the market will respond and what vehicle technologies consumers will embrace, which is why we are rolling out and testing a range of alternative fuel options. As the rule-making process moves forward, we look forward to working closely and constructively with the Administration and other stakeholders to ensure that we realize our shared environmental goals in the most economically-effective and consumer-friendly ways possible.”

“At Toyota, diversity and inclusion have always been among our top priorities, and we are honored to be recognized by Black Enterprise. … We believe constant growth towards a more inclusive environment is imperative not only in developing and retaining a talented workforce, but in fostering a corporate environment that mirrors the communities in which we do business. As we remain committed to continuously improving, we will work closely with our senior managers and Diversity Advisory Board to enhance our efforts even further.”

- Dian Ogilvie, senior vice president and chief diversity officer at Toyota Motor North America.

Safety is a top priority at Toyota and as a brand we’re constantly striving to offer our customers the latest and most advanced technology available. Today your friends at the leading local Toyota Service Center and dealership would like to take some time to talk about what’s new in safety and to let you know what you have to look forward to from our brand. We think you’ll be excited!

Pre-Collision System

Pre-Collision Systems (PCS) are advanced safety features with a proven ability to effectively reduce accidents and limit the severity of injuries sustained should an accident occur. Toyota’s PCS will go even further because it will be able to take over control of the steering in order to avoid a collision. The system will work by using millimeter-wave radar, cameras, and infrared detection at night to detect vehicles and pedestrians. The PCS will also combine with a new Lane Departure Prevention system to change the direction of the vehicle to help avoid a collision.

Adaptive Driving Beam

We’ve all been blinded by the high beams of oncoming traffic at one point or another. What if a car was able to switch these beams on and off on its own? Toyota is working to make this possible and is planning for a new system that will allow the high beams to stay on, but will block the portion of the light that would interfere with the vision of oncoming traffic.

Pop-up Hood

This new safety system is designed to reduce injuries in collisions with pedestrians and we will have more information on it soon.

Emergency-response technology

This technology was developed to cater towards older drivers and was designed to detect a possible loss of consciousness due to “cardiovascular irregularity.” With this new feature, the car will actually be able to monitor the driver’s vital sign through touch points at the steering wheel. The system is still under development and Toyota aims to showcase it at the Japan Medical Congress next April.

To learn more about any of these upcoming safety features, stop into Hudson Toyota. While you’re here, check out our selection of new and used Toyota vehicles.
We can all see the high price of gasoline as we drive past gas stations throughout the city. While we can’t control the fact that the price seems to keep going up, we can control how much gas we use. For some people, this means buying a hybrid or even an electric vehicle. For others, the idea of changing vehicles is unrealistic. We have good news for these people though! No matter if you drive a brand new Prius or a 2010 Toyota Corolla, New Jersey drivers can all save gas. Today your friends at Hudson Toyota are here with some gas saving tips for you to follow.

Avoid idling – it used to be argued that turning a vehicle on and off used more gas than letting it idle. But when vehicles starting employing fuel injection, this changed. Now it saves more gas to turn the car off if you’ll be idling for more than even 30 seconds. We’re not recommending you turn it off at stop lights, but if you have to run in a store for 10 minutes, turn it off!

Keep tires inflated properly – tire pressure is a huge way to save on gas. When you tires are at the proper inflation level, there will be less contact and resistance with the road, so you will use less gas. Be sure to keep an eye on this as the seasons change, because changes in temperature cause inflation to change.

Drive the speed limit – the faster you drive, the less economical you are. So stick with the speed limit!

Start slower – by avoiding rapid acceleration, you will save a surprising amount of gas. Pay attention to your RPMs, and get going at a more moderate pact and you’ll be happy you did.

Clean out your car – extra weight from the things in your trunk can really slow you down and impede your gas mileage. Keep only what you need in the car and you are sure to start seeing results!

Roll down the windows – when possible, keep the air conditioner off and roll down your windows. You’ll enjoy feeling the wind in your hair!

Keep your vehicle maintained – whether it’s with one of our new or our used cars, NJ drivers should always keep their vehicles well maintained. This includes clean air filters, regular oil changes, and tire rotations.

For more gas saving tips, stop in and talk with us at Hudson Toyota! Our customers are our top priority and we can’t wait to have you in the store!
