Though it’s a few years in the future, it’s something to get excited about. On October 21st, Toyota debuted its FT 86 concept car in Tokyo’s auto show. This fiery red coupe, whose production is actually a compilation of both the work of Toyota and Subaru but brands the Toyota badge, impressed all who viewed it. However, it’s definite people can’t get too comfortable referring to it as the Toyota FT (future Toyota) 86, as it’s official name will be decided in the next year or so.

We do have a few things car buyers can get comfortable with. The concept is set to have 2+2 layout, a 4-cylinder engine, 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive.

One of the major focuses of Toyota says its CEO, is to start building “more emotional cars”. What, now? I’m not sure either, but they promise this concept is one of those vehicles, and it evokes that “emotion” drivers want. I’ll take it.

This edgy vehicle seems promising as a hit with the younger generations with the sleek coupe design- but we can’t get ahead of ourselves. “Build quality is very high, and it may already look ready for the road, but don’t be surprised if the exterior changes, because this car is not finished, not by a long way,” says a Toyota source. There are supposedly two other similar design options that have not been completely ruled out. I’m hoping it sticks with this one.

I’m sure this whole time you’ve been wondering what’s with the title? Well, many have said this concept has a strikingly similar resemblance to the Toyota Celica, which has not been on local Newark new Toyota dealer lots for several years. It’s also been physically compared to the Supra, MR-2. Up for you to decide, I guess. Either way, we welcome it into the lineup.

Want one more thing to get excited about? Rumors are flying that a drop-top (convertible, in Lamen’s terms) version of this FT 86 may be in the future. All in all, this new Toyota seems it will definitely be an attention-grabber, at the least. Carrying the Toyota name, we can only assume it will embody the safety, dependability, sustainability and comfort of the other standard Toyota models. Get excited, I know I am. Looking for a Staten Island new Toyota in the meantime?
