While I enjoy working for one of the leading Toyota dealers in New Jersey, I have another, more important job that I love even more – I’m a parent. Like so many of you out there, I find that my kids are growing up way too fast and their 16th birthday will be here before I know it. Even though that day is still a couple of years away, I’m already filled with anxiety just thinking about it. Toyota has come up with a solution to ease the worries of parents like myself and also to help kids prepare to take to the roads and it’s called Toyota Teen Driver.

Toyota Teen Driver is a website and valuable online resource for teens, parents, and teachers. The project stemmed from Toyota’s recognition that, unfortunately, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among US teens. To counter these risks, Toyota teamed with Discovery Education to create a comprehensive program designed to help teens avoid distraction, help them stay safe behind the wheel, and help give parents a better peace of mind. The Toyota Teen Driver website offers everything from tips for parents on teaching your teen to drive to “Mutual Driving Agreements” that you can create with your teen driver.

Another component of the website is called “Heads Up!” It consists of an interactive road distraction challenge and gives participants the chance to practice their driving skills in a safe setting. Participants can also enter to win $50,000 in cash prizes from Toyota!

If you’re like me and have a child approaching their 16th birthday, or if you have a teen that has already begun driving, I urge you to visit the Toyota Teen Driver website. While Toyota can never totally eliminate the worry that comes along with being a parent, I am confident that you will find the resources on this website extremely helpful.

And when you feel your teen is ready for a vehicle of their own, come visit us at Hudson Toyota! We would be more than happy to help you choose the perfect vehicle from our selection of new and used cars. NJ parents can trust Hudson Toyota for all of their car buying needs so stop in today!

Grandma always said, “Waste not, want not” and Toyota is taking that to heart with its participation in the WasteWise program in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Toyota dealers in New Jersey are proud to be on board.

A Toyota official says this “program is a great opportunity to recognize the efforts of Toyota associates that contribute to our waste reduction and recycling efforts every day” and Toyota car dealers NJ hope that will trickle down to their individual dealerships.

Choosing to be a part of the first voluntary national solid waste reduction program puts Toyota at the forefront of the environmental movement among auto makers in my book. And this is certainly not their first effort to move toward being green. Car buyers of Toyota NJ should take note, as should those who are looking for an environmentally responsible product who haven’t yet driven Toyota.

Already in 2008 Toyota recycled over 86 percent of its waste, which amounts to 24,000,000 pounds. Toyota Motor Sales estimates that the amount of greenhouse gases reduced from this recycling effort is equivalent to all 2nd generation Prius sold in the U.S. in 2008. Toyota car dealers NJ provide area car buyers with environmentally conscious cars like the Prius.

One of the ways Toyota is participating in the WasteWise program is by putting reusable metal containers in many of its distribution centers in place of wooden pallets or cardboard containers. This step has save approximately 25.9 million pounds of wood and 9.4 million pounds or corrugated cardboard and Toyota dealers in New Jersey hope to contribute to this effort in the coming year.

It’s refreshing to see car companies stepping up and taking measures of their own accord to help protect our environment and Toyota NJ dealers should be commended for getting the word out and joining the movement.

Toyota joins the more than 1,100 retailers, manufacturers and service firms in the WasteWise Program, which began in 1994. This is definitely a positive move in Toyota’s ongoing commitment to work green and gives me one more reason to smile as I drive my Toyota.
